10 Sapphic Romance Novels With Taylor Swift Song Pairings (Heather's Version)
Would you kiss me on the porch in front of all your stupid friends?
Infamous by Lex Croucher // Cardiagn, Folklore
Infamous is the story of Eddie, a Jo March/Anne Shirley hybrid, who doesn't quite know she's gay and in love with her neighbor from childhood, only that she wants to spend every waking minute with Rose and would rather punch a man in the neck than watch him marry at her BEST FRIEND.
I knew you
Hand under my sweatshirt
Baby, kiss it better, I—
And when I felt like I was an old cardigan
Under someone's bed
You put me on and said I was your favorite
Stars Collide by Rachel Lacey // I Know Places, 1989
Eden Sands is the biggest pop star on the face of the earth. Anna Moss is up-and-coming and out, out, out. They end up on tour together, where Eden realizes she’s not so straight after all, and suddenly finds herself in the very Taylor Swift-y predicament of needing a place to make out where no one can find her, when basically every single human with a phone is constantly looking for and at her. (Also, if you’ve ever been in any fandom, there’s a shared sweatshirt in this book that’s gonna stress you out so good!)
I can hear them whisper as we pass by
It's a bad sign, bad sign
Something happens when everybody finds out
See the vultures circling, dark clouds
Love's a fragile little flame, it could burn out
It could burn out
Fly with Me by Andie Burke // Enchanted, Speak Now
Stella is an Allied Airlines pilot whose dream is to be a Captain. And her dream is her main driver in life. Olive is an ER nurse who’s terrified of flying, but finds herself on one of Stella's planes en route to run a half-marathon at Disney World to honor her dying brother. They meet-cute when Olive answers the call to save a man's life mid-flight. And then — oh ho ho, and then! — they FAKE DATE.
These are the words I held back, as I was leaving too soon
I was enchanted to meet you
Please don't be in love with someone else
Please don't have somebody waiting on you
One Last Stop by Casey McQuiston // Cornelia Street, Lover
It’s almost better if you go into One Last Stop not knowing what it’s about except for these three things: A very cool retro girl falls in love with a very dorky modern day Veronica Mars; it’s the best queer found family I’ve ever read; and it’s so full of romantic angst you’re gonna scream into a pillow, like, multiple times.
And baby, I get mystified by how this city screams your name
And baby, I'm so terrified of if you ever walk away
I'd never walk Cornelia Street again
Delilah Green Doesn't Care by Ashley Herring Blake // Dress, Reputation
You ever wonder what would happen if Faith and Willow tumbled into a Hallmark Christmas movie and fell in love? But Christmas was a wedding? Well, now you’ll know!
Say my name and everything just stops
I don't want you like a best friend
Only bought this dress so you could take it off
Take it off
Astrid Parker Doesn't Fail by Ashley Herring Blake // Treacherous, Red
Buttoned-up designer Astrid Parker gets hired to renovate her town’s haunted B&B for an HGTV-style show. The lead carpenter for the project is a butch lesbian named Jordan who drives a pickup truck named Adora. (Yes, She-Ra and the Princesses of Power’s Adora.) Jordan’s always been jilted! Astrid’s always been straight! The Two of Cups keeps mocking them! And wow when they make out, they make out.
I can't decide if it's a choice
Getting swept away
I hear the sound of my own voice
Asking you to stay
And all we are is skin and bone
Trained to get along
Forever going with the flow
But you're friction
Satisfaction Guaranteed by Karelia Stetz-Waters // Lover, Lover
A Megan Rapinoe-looking gallery owner inherits half a sex toy store from her eccentric aunt. The other half-owner is a painter who’s lost her way and is trying to claw her way back to having some control in her life by being celibate. One wants to sell Satisfaction Guaranteed, the other wants to throw everything at the store to save it. They both get nothing and absolutely everything they want.
We could leave the Christmas lights up 'til January
And this is our place, we make the rules
And there's a dazzling haze, a mysterious way about you dear
Have I known you 20 seconds or 20 years?
Behind the Scenes by Karelia Stetz-Waters // Willow, Evermore
A masterful business consultant, a failed director, pugs in Gucci. Behind the Scenes is swoony in the way all the best sapphic romances are, but what sets it apart is how dang funny it is. Also, surprise ASMR subplot! I also loved that the characters are in their late 30s/early 40s and act like it. Misunderstandings, sure! All rom-coms got 'em — but they don't drive the plot. Both Ash and Rose have their traumas and their romantic/sexual hang-ups, yet they also both understand what they're striving for is a teammate to stand beside them, not someone to gobble them up and devour them whole.
Wherever you stray
I follow
I'm begging for you to take my hand
Wreck my plans
For Her Consideration by Amy Spalding // Today Was a Fairytale, Fearless
The most charming queer actress in Hollywood falls hard for the woman her manager hired to answer her emails. They are absolutely forbidden from dating! So, instead, they hang out and stare at each other’s lips a lot — until they can’t take the dang rules anymore!
Today was a fairytale
You were the prince
I used to be a damsel in distress
You took me by the hand, and you picked me up at six
Today was a fairytale
Margo Zimmerman Gets the Girl by Brianna R. Shrum and Sara Waxelbaum // Betty
A queer high school romance that features two neurodiverse characters from wildly different worlds. Abbie needs help in AP History, to get into college. Margo needs help learning how to be gay, because she refuses to come out until she knows everything there is to know about queerness. So they agree to tutor each other. Margo teaches Abbie about Hamilton. Annie teaches Margo how to sit wrong. They’re just friends, they keep saying, over and over, while trying to keep their hands to themselves. (They are not just friends.)
Yeah, I showed up at your party
Will you have me?
Will you love me?
Will you kiss me on the porch
In front of all your stupid friends?
This solves so many of my TSwift problems.
I've read Stars Collide and One Last Stop, so on the strength of those I will definitely buy the rest of these!
