."..like we invented it, because we did". So true, this is about all of us, it's what we humans do. We can't just take the easy way out by saying it's all "their" fault.
As an English person I can't help but compare the re election of Trump to Brexit... some of the population got it wasn't going to be a good answer for most of the population, but others believed the lies told by Trump's mate Farage... who has a European passport via his German wife.... and they voted for us to leave Europe, and now we are all hearing daily on the news about Farmers no longer able to support their families without European subsidies, Fishermen who were told "our water will be protected, you'll be able to fish as much as you want without competition" without the realisation or thought of how they were going to sell those fish, when they had to wait in line in customs and process the paperwork, which add costs they hoped to pass onto the importer, who could just go and buy from elsewhere, and its only really hit us economically so far in the UK, I can't imagine what it must be like to realise these people won't really get the pain they've caused until its too late, and the consequences for the lives of people in the US will be impacted way more than just economically.
I have to just keep believing "that this too will pass" ....
Wow.. probably the best, simplest most direct explanation I've heard as the reason for this tragedy
