Oh I love this, as an artist who is NEVER kind to herself, I am so proud of you. Your drawings make me smile. I am always happy to hear your thoughts. Keep it up and thanks for giving me new things to say to myself.
Good on you for doing this healing work - and for sharing about it. I don’t know why drawing is one of the things a lot of people hold a big vulnerability about, but you’re not alone! Can’t wait to read your big project, you’re one of my favourite writers 😊
Heather, these drawings are so beautiful and sweet! And I could really relate to your inner dialogue on the journey toward kinder self-talk. This made my day! Thanks for sharing this - you are awesome! 💜✨✨✨
This piece has found me just when I needed it ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Also, I love the Bob Ross reference in the title 😉 "We don't make mistakes here, we just have happy accidents." He says a version of that almost every episode.
So very relatable!!. I've ordered the book because I've always wanted to draw, and I've always been too hard on my attempts. A whimsical style feels like a good entry point. It will be easier to practice than something that feels serious. Since skill comes through practice, I'm committing to not only practicing, but not being overly critical of my efforts. Thank you! this post means more to me than I can express!
Heather, this post hit so hard. I'm really so terribly mean to myself and I found myself really touched and inspired by your journey to be kinder to yourself. As silly as it sounds, the dialogues you shared was super helpful. I'm so glad you've been on this healing pathway and have found a way to be kinder to yourself. And, your illustrations are too much - I love them! I actually ordered the book after reading this post the first time and I'm looking foward to this work. I've always wanted to draw but have let my negativity stop me. So, here's to first steps! <3
I love these illustrations! And yay for a cat named Beth March. Nice piece here about being easier on ourselves. I make illustrations too, returned to it in 2020. Like you, it makes me happy, and I enjoy the cuter notebook pages : ).
This made me cry! Your drawings are so cute and it breaks my heart that you would be so angry with yourself regardless of their quality. I’m glad you’ve got yourself back on track. Also, I love that your cat is called Beth March. That really made me smile!
This is a beautiful story and I love the lesson about how we talk to ourselves but I'm also actually blown away by how incredible your drawings are!! I love them. When I got to the end of the second paragraph I though the third was going to say "I missed my calling as an illustrator".

I’m so glad you’re sharing your art and more importantly that you’ve gotten to a better place and talk to yourself with more kindness 😊
Heather, I am so mean to myself too. So I’m going to try doing what you did.
Also: those drawings are so cute!
