This speaks to me, deeply (esp. "ready to invite people to laugh at my carefully curated version of the event" !!!). Now as a mid-30 something I take ballet classes and it's a lesson in humility every time -- but I absolutely love leaping around the studio, even if I look like a frightened horse while doing it.
Beautiful! I wish you an ever-expanding set of lovely things to enjoy. If you ever get into crafting of any kind, over at Threadstack, the community are very kind and welcoming to those of us who practice -as I do - shitty crafts, for the pure joy of flow-in-creativity. For those of us who laptop a lot, it's soooo good to find other style can do with our hands and eyes!
I love this! Your drawing adventure played a role in my learning to draw at the age of 52, and for exactly these reasons. I just want to learn to draw. Not for money or to be good at it, but because I want to! It's truly life-changing to get to that point. I wish that feeling for everyone.
Love this! And, I want you to know that your journey has been so clear and vivid - and incredibly inspiring. I'm still finding my way and figuring out how to let go of my conditioning and fear of failure but you have inspired me to try. Also, team Lego ftw! :) <3
YES TO THIS. I grew up in the exacting and precise world of classical choral music and letting myself be not good at stuff and do stuff just for fun took a long time (I'm in my forties) and it is the absolute best!
I hear you on the Lego! But it’s so fun and the cats can think they’re helping! I’ve started to “play with mud” as my pottery teacher calls it and I’m looking forward to going to the shop. I’ve never really looked forward to anything except alone time or marvel movies! And your recaps, actually :-) I love your writing but I love knowing you’re happy even more, thanks for sharing your joy with us!

Wow, all the kudos! My mother put me in ballet classes when I was a toddler but now at mid 30 my back hurts just thinking about it! I’m so impressed!

Oof Heather I really identify with only trying things that come naturally to you. Thank you for sharing!

Your art is cool!
I loved this! It really is so hard to let people see you (me) struggle with things. Thank you for writing about it.
LOVE YOU
